Gold Ribbon Sale Marks a Special Return to Coolabunia

7th October 2026

The inaugural Gold Ribbon Gelbvieh & Balancer Sale, held on Saturday 26 September 2026, marked a special milestone for the breed: the return of a Gelbvieh sale to Coolabunia Saleyards after more than 12 years.

Bringing breeders and buyers together at this venue was about more than the bulls on offer. It was an opportunity to celebrate the breed’s history in the region, reconnect with familiar faces and build new relationships for the future.

Six vendors joined forces to bring the inaugural sale to life: Merrindale Gelbvieh, Midas Gelbvieh, Weetalabah Cattle, Balancer Australia, Crosshill Gelbvieh and Blue Stone Valley Gelbvieh. Their shared commitment provided the foundation for a sale that organisers hope will become a valued fixture on the annual stud sale calendar.

Lot 1, Midas V13, achieved the top price of $9,000, with Aussie Land & Livestock reporting an average sale price of $6,111. Thank you to the purchasers who supported the inaugural event and placed their confidence in the cattle and the breeding programs behind them.

A particularly heartfelt thank you goes to Midge Thompson, Chris Crouch and the entire Aussie Land & Livestock team for taking a chance on a new sale and helping turn the vendors’ vision into reality. Their support, encouragement and work throughout the process were greatly appreciated.

The day also reflected the strength of the Gelbvieh community, with family, friends and supporters coming together to help make this first sale possible. To everyone who attended, bid or lent a hand behind the scenes, thank you for being part of this milestone.

Aussie Land & Livestock has confirmed that the Gold Ribbon Sale will return to its stud sale calendar in 2027. With the inaugural event now complete, the vendors look forward to building on this year’s foundation and welcoming buyers back for a bigger and better sale.

After more than 12 years, it was truly special to see a Gelbvieh sale back at Coolabunia—and there is plenty to look forward to in 2027.
