2020 Gelbvieh Youth: All-Breeds classic

The Gelbvieh Youth would like to extend an invitation to all young beef cattle enthusiasts between the ages of 5 to 25 years, to join them for an exciting three days at the Lismore Showgrounds from Saturday 6th to Monday 8th June 2020.  The committee has put together an exciting program to allow participants to learn about both the stud and commercial beef cattle industries. The program will include workshops, demonstrations and hands-on learning activities delivered by professionals in the beef industry. Workshops will be offered in 3 (subject to change) different age groups. In addition to the workshops, participants will compete in cattle judging and handling competitions. 

The entry fee for the 2020 Gelbvieh Youth: All-Breeds Classic is $129.  The entry fee is all-inclusive and covers the cost of all meals including a formal dinner at the Italo Club (including transport to/from the dinner), workshops/events and all necessary equipment, hoodie, events and 1 year junior membership to the Australian Gelbvieh Association.  For junior members who have already paid their membership for 2020 please indicate this on the entry form to receive a discount. Australian Gelbvieh Association membership entitles junior members to be involved in the Gelbvieh Youth if they wished, receive correspondents e.g. Gelbvieh e-news on a regular basis, and they are able to attend Gelbvieh events such as Field Days and AGM. 

All participants are to stay on the grounds for the duration of the event to allow them to get the most out of the experience.  Parents/guardians are also welcome to stay on-site for the duration of the event.

Competition participants can organise to loan a heifer/s from a stud breeder or enter their own. Ballot heifers will be available for those who don’t have an animal but would like to come (indicate on entry form). Participants aged under 16 years can only enter two animals. Participants aged 16 years and over can enter up to three animals. If you are able to supply a ballot heifer please indicate on the entry form.

Please read the conditions of entry carefully (page 3). ALL entry fees, medical information and consent forms MUST accompany the entry. ANY entry that is received without payment will NOT be accepted!

Conditions of ENTRY

  1. Minimum age – participants must be 5 years of age. Maximum age is 25. Participants turning 25 in the year of the event will be eligible irrespective of the event being held after their actual birthday. Proof of age may be called. For the ages of 5-7 must be accompanied by a parent at all times and the committee reserves the right to deem certain activities unsafe.
  2. Participants are required to pay an entry fee of $129.00. This includes membership, merchandise, insurance, entry fee of one or two animals and meals,
  3. Heifers between the age of 6 months and under 24 months as of the 1st June 2020 will be placed in heifer classes. Any animals exceeding this age will be entered into Futurity classes. Calves are not to exceed the maximum age of 9 months. Steers must be milk tooth only. Bull entries will be accepted 20 months and under, however please be advised that any animal deemed unsafe will not be allowed in the cattle classes.
  4. All animals must be registered unless specified on the entry form that they are in the commercial or Gelbvieh percentage class.
  5. Health Declaration and NVD: Health Declaration forms and NVD’s are a requirement upon entering cattle. Please send these declarations accompanying entry form. Entries will not be accepted without a health declaration and NVD. 
  6. Pestivirus Testing: All cattle entering New South Wales must be pestivirus tested, we require a copy of the test results with entries. Failure to provide testing results, cattle will be illegible to remain on grounds.
  7. Spraying: New South Wales is a tick free area. ALL cattle within tick infected areas are required to be sprayed before entering New South Wales. This will require booking in at the relevant spraying stations prior to commencing movement. Upon arrival you may be asked to provide your spray certificate. Please let us know if this is the case and we will help as much as possible.
  8. All registered animals must have a legible tattoo that correlates with their society.
  9. All animals must have a readable NLIS tag.
  10. All exhibits must have an acceptable temperament and be broken to lead – nose clips are compulsory unless the animal is still on its mother at the show or at the committees discretion. Neck straps to be worn in stall. Rings in bulls over 12 months old.
  11. Exhibitors are to provide their own equipment and feed for their cattle.
  12. Any entrants under the age of 18 must have parental consent to attend the camp.
  13. Participants under the age of 18 years MUST have a guardians contacts available at all time.
  14. No alcohol is to be consumed by ANY camp participants. If alcohol is consumed, then the participant will be asked to remove themselves from the camp.
  15. Any entrants under the age of 18 must have parental consent to attend the camp.
  16. Participants who leave the grounds, must notify the camp committee. The 2020 Gelbvieh Youth Camp Committee will take no responsibility for the safety, care or behaviour of any participants who exit venue grounds.
  17. No smoking in camping areas/shed, cattle stalls, toilets and showers. 
  18. Appropriate footwear is to be worn at all times; sneakers, thongs or canvas shoes are not permitted around cattle.
  19. Drug use is prohibited, alongside any illegal or harmful acts upon yourself and/or other participants. Result of this will be involvement of law services and prosecution.
  20. No dogs are to be within the cattle stalling or ring areas.
  21. Any participants acting disruptively or unacceptably will be immediately disqualified.
  22. Participants are required to be a member of the Australian Gelbvieh Association.
  23. Participants under the age of 12 may be accompanied in the ring by an older participant. 
  24. It is expected that older participants will be partnered with a junior buddy to assist for the duration of the event
  25. Bibs will be provided to participants to wear throughout the event at all times. Any bibs which are not returned to the committee at the end of the event will incur a replacement fee. 
  26. Whilst everything is done to ensure the safety of participants and their animals, every care will be taken by those in charge. The Gelbvieh Youth: All-Breeds Classic Committee is not responsible for any accident or sickness that may occur, through any source whatsoever. It must be clearly understood that each participant will only be permitted to attend the Handlers Camp on the understanding that the parent/guardian (if participant is under 18) signs a consent form and agrees to indemnify the committee against any claim.
  27. Inspectors nominated by the camp committee will be inspecting NLIS tags, tattoos and/or firebrands/freeze brands on arrival. Incorrect or illegible tattoos will lead to disqualification. As well as missing NLIS tag. Brands are optional in New South Wales.
  28. All exhibitor’s electrical equipment must have an in-line circuit breaker and all power leads must have a current certificate OT tag from a registered electrician as required by law.  Inspection will be carried out. 
  29. Declaration of JBAS Score must be put with the cattle entries and be a minimum of 6.
  30. Calves to be restrained at all times otherwise tethered by committee.
  31. The Committee reserves the right to organize the animals and participants into appropriate groups after receiving entries taking into consideration sizes of groups. Such grouping will be given out at registrations.
  32. Owners of cattle MUST have a $20 Million public liability and that the Committee does not take responsibility if your animal
  33. The Gelbvieh Youth Committee will endeavour to provide a safe environment at all times for participants. However, the Gelbvieh Youth Committee accepts no responsibility for any participant/s who are found to have behaved inappropriately, or in a dangerous or illegal manner.
  34. No refunds will be available after the 15th May.
  35. NEW THIS YEAR – Gelbvieh Percentage Class. To be eligible for this class you must be able to prove that there is Gelbvieh genetics that can be sourced from the ABRI database.
  36. NEW THIS YEAR – Commercial Class. All commercial females under the age of 24 months of age are eligible for this class.
  37. NEW THIS YEAR – Gelbvieh Bulls only can be up to 24 months old and can only be lead by a Senior. If the animal is deemed unsafe the committee has the right to prevent it from being shown.
  38. NEW THIS YEAR - Pee wee dress up!!!! The THEME is bring back the 80’s. Also include a costume for your senior buddy.

 

2020 Gelbvieh Youth: All-Breeds youth classic

Camp Dates: 6th, 7th, and 8th of June 2020

Camp Location: Lismore Showgrounds, Lismore NSW

Camp Cost: $129 per participant.  This covers the cost of all meals including formal dinner at Italo Club and transport to/from the dinner, workshops/events, hoodie and 1 year junior membership to the Australian Gelbvieh Association (those participants who are already Gelbvieh Association members will have this cost deducted from their entry

Arrival Time: Saturday morning for a 9 am start, for interstate or long-distance travellers are more than welcome to arrive lunch time Thursday.

Departure Time: Following the presentations, hopefully no later than 2:00pm. Interstate or long-distance travellers are welcome to stay Monday night, departing by 10 am Tuesday morning.

Meals: Will be provided for all participants, please advise on the entry form if you have any special dietary requirements.  Meal vouchers will be available for parents/guardians accompanying participants at a cost of $50. 

We understand that the above comes at an additional cost and can be extra work for breeders and exhibitors. But we trust that you have an understanding of the importance of protecting yourself and other from disease and parasites.

Competitions and awards

 

A number of awards and prizes will be presented during the event.  Some of these include:

 

Cattle Judging Competition

This competition will be held on the Sunday, with competitors judge in their age groups. Competitors will be required to judge group/s of cattle and place them in order from first to last place. Competitors will have the opportunity to comment on why they have placed the cattle in the order chosen. The winners of these awards will be calculated from a combination of their placement of the cattle and their oral presentation of their selection. A champion junior, intermediate and senior judge will be selected.

Herdsman Awards

The herdsman awards will be judged over the duration of the event by undisclosed roaming judges.  A champion herdsman award will be selected from the junior, intermediate and senior age groups.  All participants will be judged on their overall performance including:

v  Tidiness of stall and equipment

v  Condition of bedding and feed

v  Showing ability

v  Care of their animal

v  Personal appearance

v  Teamwork

v  General knowledge of the beef industry

Cattle Paraders Competition

This competition will be held on the Monday*, with the competitors being judged in their age groups.  A champion, junior, intermediate and senior handler will be selected from their age groups.  Some of the criteria the judges will use include:

v  Presentation of the handler and animal

v  Knowledge of the animal’s details

v  Ability to handle and present the animal

Junior Judge Competition

This competition will be held on the Sunday*, with competitors judging cattle in their age groups. A champion, junior, intermediate and senior handler will be selected from their age groups.

 

Clubman of the year

The clubman of the Year will be awarded to one member of the committee based on the work and commitment they have had towards the running of the show.

Indemnity release and waiver of Liability

I understand and acknowledge that all aspects of handling, working with and in the vicinity of animals is a dangerous activity and that cattle can act in a sudden and unpredictable way at any time. I understand and acknowledge that serious injury or death may result from all activities involving cattle at the Gelbvieh Youth: All-Breeds Classic. I agree that I compete and attend this event at my own risk and to indemnify and keep indemnified the organisation or person involved in the conduct of any event against all claims, suits, actions or demands which may be brought in respect of and injury or other loss sustained by me in the course of competing at the Gelbvieh Youth: All-Breeds Youth Classic. I also agree to exonerate the Committee of management of the Gelbvieh Youth: All-Breeds Youth Classic together with any other organisation or person involved in the conduct of this event from loss or injury to me whether due to alleged negligence or otherwise.  I understand that at all times a parent/guardian is to be able to be contacted throughout the event, should there be an incident where a parent/guardian is required.
